Fingal is rural land behind the back beach, with large lots, golf links and sandy ground. Retaining walls here are functional: a cut for a shed or machinery platform, a terrace to flatten part of a sloping paddock, a wall holding a driveway where it crosses a rise. What gets built in Fingal
Concrete sleeper walls are the practical rural default. Block retaining walls suit anything engineered, such as a platform carrying a large shed. Stone and boulder walls look right on rural land and drain well through their open joints. Drainage on rural blocks usually discharges to a table drain or swale rather than a stormwater pit.
What to budget
Guide pricing only. A wall about a metre high runs from roughly $200 per metre in timber to $700 or more per metre in stone and engineered block, with concrete sleepers in between. Cartage distance and the size of the wall are the main drivers. Good machine access keeps the labour side sensible.
